November is an extraordinary time to tell your story! It’s also our biggest fundraising month of the year—which is necessary to put on all of our writing programs. Our annual Double-Up Donation Weekend fundraising bonanza takes place from Friday, November 4 through Sunday, November 6. 🥳

Double-Up and Donate Here!

Donation Weekend is our biggest fundraiser of the year with raffle prizes, author webcasts, matching donor challenges, and of course, lots of writing and community fun for all our participants, regardless of donor status!

NaNoWriMo offers our programs free-of-cost to all our participants. We want to provide everyone access to their stories, to their imagination, to the overall joy of writing and reading. Eliminating a paywall is one HUGE way we can do that for our community.

We’re setting a 130 million word count goal and a USD $175,000 fundraising goal for Donation Weekend, in support of NaNoWriMo’s nonprofit mission to encourage creativity and build worlds both on and off the page.

Join us all weekend long for our Donation Weekend festivities. We’ll be on Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Pacific daily.

Download the full weekend schedule here.

All author webcasts will be streamed live on YouTube.

🌷 🌱 What’s the double-up? 🌱 🌷

The answer is two-fold! We do our best to help our community donor base tap into Donation Weekend, no matter the gift size or commitment.

#1 Double up on donor goodies.

On the left side, it reads Give USD $25. Get $50 Donor Gifts + 2022 Pin and Bracelet. On the right side, it reads Give USD $50. Get $100 Donor Gifts + 2022 Pen, Pin, and Bracelet. On the bottom are three photos. Left, black floral enamel pin. Middle, yellow wristband that says A Yellow Rose for Gratitude. Right, a blue shell pen that says NaNoWriMo.

During this weekend only, you get more community swag without even trying!

Additionally, all international (outside of the U.S.) donors will receive a digital exclusive goodie. Think of it as your 2022 donor digital flair! You must donate to reveal and receive your prize.

#2 Double your dollar impact.

All weekend long, we’ll have dollar-to-dollar matches up to $42,500 from generous friends of NaNoWriMo.

Consider NaNoWriMo’s Donation Weekend as the friendly literary arts extension of a public radio drive: “This November bonanza is made possible thanks to writers like you.” Together, we can meet our daily fundraising goals with the support of all our community donors.

A special thank you to: Michael Chatfield, Scott Ellis, Anthony Francis, Darynda Jones, Marissa Meyer, and our St. Louis Angel Donor for their generous matches.

🌷 🌱 FAQ 🌱 🌷

🌱 Can I download the full Donation Weekend event and prize schedule?

You sure can! Click here for an overview of our weekend festivities. Tune in to NaNoWriMo’s Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube for real-time updates and announcements all weekend long.

🌱 Where do my donations go?

Contributions raised during this weekend will be considered general operating support for NaNoWriMo’s year-round programming. We’re a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, and we’re proud to be a majority community-funded charity. Additionally, if you’re based in the U.S., your donation is tax deductible.

🌱 How old do I have to be to donate?

There is no age limit. Typically, our donors are aged 18 and up since all online donations are processed through our Shopify store. You will need a credit card to make your contribution during Donation Weekend.

🌱 What are other methods of payment for my donation?

Paper checks are your next best bet! This payment method is encouraged for larger gifts to avoid big online transaction fees. Please make checks payable to “National Novel Writing Month” and list “Donation Weekend 2022” in the memo field. You may send your donation to our HQ office at 3354 Adeline St, Berkeley, CA 94703, USA.

If you decide to donate by paper check and want to be considered for any or all of our Donation Weekend prizes, please fill out the raffle form here.

🌱 How will prize winners be selected?

For the Sweepstakes and Daily Grand Prize items, winners will be determined in a random drawing (from among all eligible entries) on Thursday, November 10, 2022. They will be selected in order of Sweepstakes then the Daily Grand Prizes to ensure equitable opportunity for participants to win.

For the hourly prizes, winners will be drawn at the end of each day. However, you can only win one hourly prize throughout the whole weekend.

For all giveaways, winners will be notified by email and given instructions on how to claim the prize. Failure to comply when requested may result in disqualification and selection of an alternative winner.

🌱 Can I win more than one prize?

We want to share the joy and love with all our community members. For our big giveaways, you can only win one item from either the Sweepstakes or Daily Grand Prize drawings. For our hourly raffles, you can only win one prize item all weekend. This means a participant has the chance to win 1 grand prize and 1 hourly prize if luck favors them. No repeat wins here, sorry friends!

🌱 Any chance I can enter the raffle without making a donation?

No donation necessary to enter or win. Making a donation will not improve an individual’s chance of winning. The giveaways are subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. Void where prohibited or restricted by law or regulations.

To enter the raffle as a non-donor, please fill out the raffle form here.

🌱 Am I eligible to win prizes if I’m outside of the U.S.?

Yes! We will be coordinating prize fulfillment through our in-kind donors, so no worries if you live stateside or all the way in Antarctica… though we heard the postal service is hit or miss when it comes to penguin carrier delivery.

🌱 It’s a tough financial year for me, but I still want to donate what I can!

Oof, we hear you. The recession is real, and we feel it too! That’s why we continue to offer our community donor budget template as a financial tool to help you feel good about your contributions to all the causes you care about, not just NaNoWriMo.

🌱 Okay, but real talk, I can’t make a financial donation at this time. Can I give in other ways?

Of course! Every campaign, including Donation Weekend, is designed with the full NaNoWriMo community in mind. Whether you can give money, time, or just the gift of your creative energy, we’re excited for you to join in!

This weekend especially, get your word count in! Help us reach 130 million words worldwide.
